PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP), the largest nickel industrial area in Indonesia located in Weda, Central Halmahera, North Maluku (Malut), will provide training to 17 thousand workers to improve their skills.

From 2019 to 2022, the total participants who took part in this training reached 17,358 people, with various types of heavy equipment skills including excavator, wheel loader, dump truck, and welder training. Currently, the participants who are undergoing training number approximately 800 people.

Public Relations of PT IWIP Bilal Sau said, this training program is AN effort by PT IWIP in preparing a ready workforce in the industrial world.

The hope, continued Bilal, is that the labor force in North Maluku can be optimally absorbed, that way the unemployment rate can also be minimized.

"For this training, we prioritize the people of North Maluku, but it is possible that from outside they can also join. During the training, we also provide accommodation and consumption for training participants," bilal said in a written statement, Monday (3/10/2022).

Bilal revealed that at the beginning of this year, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released the unemployment rate in Central Halmahera which had decreased.

"These participants will attend the training within a certain period of time. At the end of the day, participants will take the exam, and if they are declared to have passed, they can immediately be contracted to become employees of PT IWIP," he added.

One of the heavy equipment training participants, Risal Abdullah said, had attended the excavator training for one month and two days.

Risal admitted that instead of applying as a general worker, he intended to attend training. Although he knew that during the training he was not yet under contract so he had not earned a salary.

"It doesn't matter (not getting a salary yet), because I really want to study first. Later, if you have better skills, you will be better," he said.
