The government continues to echo the pursuit of Net Zero Emission (NZE) targets by 2060 or above fast, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Arifin Tasrif said Indonesia will produce 1.5 giga tons of CO2 by 2060.
"The value of these emissions occurs when we just do business as usual without any attempt to shift using more environmentally friendly energy," Arifin said at the side event forum B20 Summit, Signing Agreement B20 Task Force, Sustainability & Climate Business Action in Nusa Dua Bali, Sunday (13/11).
One of the efforts made according to him is by switching to using electric vehicles, which electric vehicles do not emitting exhaust emissions so that it is more environmentally friendly.
Furthermore, Arifin described the condition of the sector transportation today, where the number of vehicles in Indonesia reaches more than 140 million units. "Of these, it is dominated by two-wheeled vehicles (motorbikes), which amount to about 120 million units," said Arifin.
He described, if a motorcycle consumes 1 liter of fuel per day, that equates to about 1 million barrels of oil. And if it is adjusted to the current price of oil, then the amount of money burned is more than USD 100 million per day.
"That's why the government has a program converting fuel-based motors into electric motors," concluded Arifin.
For information, on the energy transition roadmap to achieve NZE, the government targets at the 2021-2025 stage, the number of Electric vehicles 300,000 units of cars and 1.3 million units of motors. While on Phase 2026-2030, the number of electric vehicles is targeted at 2 million units of cars and 13 million units of motors.
