Step Temperature Acid Leach or STAL Technology is TGEM’s technological breakthrough in the extraction of nickel from laterite deposits. Nickel and Cobalt can be extracted with up to 95% recovery (yield) rate from a wide range of nickel laterite deposits, from low-grade limonite ore to high-grade saprolite ore. STAL is developed as a modular system to suit various requirements, from nickel production of 2,450 tpa (with Ni ore input 1.3%) to more than 100,000 tons per annum (tpa). Furthermore, STAL residues are less-acidic and can be converted into by-products such as magnesium sulfates, Iron Oxide (for the steel industry), bricks, and non-hazardous wastes such as saline water.
