PT Trimegah Bangun Persada Tbk (NCKL) or Harita Nickel  voluntarily submitted itself to undergo an audit process by the world's most stringent independent audit institution, The Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA).

Harita Nickel, a sustainable integrated nickel mining and processing company, stated that the audit process, which began in October last year, will enter the second phase in April 2025.

IRMA-approved independent auditor in Indonesia, SCS Global Services (SCS), will see whether the company operating in South Halmahera, North Maluku has respected human rights and listened to the aspirations of the community around the operational area.

In addition, the company will also be assessed on whether it has contributed to creating a safe, healthy and supportive work environment, while minimizing environmental damage and leaving a positive legacy.

In total, there are more than 400 IRMA standard requirements that will go through the audit process.

The results of the assessment will be in the form of a public audit report released locally and on the IRMA website.

"By submitting to have its mining operations independently audited against the world's most stringent global mining standards, Harita Nickel is setting an example of unprecedented transparency in mining operations in Indonesia," IRMA Executive Director Aimee Boulanger said in a press release as Harita Nickel began the audit process.

Transparency and commitment

Director of Health, Safety and Environment Harita Nickel, Tonny Gultom said this transparency shows the implementation of responsible and sustainable mining practices.

This, he said, is also a company commitment.

"This is also an effort to support the Indonesian government's vision for a mining sector that is transparent and environmentally and socially responsible," said Tonny.

Before starting the mining process, Harita Nickel has obtained various academic studies that are fundamental to responsible operational practices.

Among them, hydrological studies and land use planning serve as references for comprehensive water management plans, including responsible use, recycling and distribution of water throughout operational areas.
